Summer Slam and Harley

Its been an incredible few weeks since school has let out. We got back from Evanston, Wyoming yesterday evening after watching Ethan and his baseball team play in the Summer Slam. We had a wonderful time cheering him and his team on for a few days. His team ended up winning and being named the Summer Slam Champions! Very Fun. However, after the celebrating we realized Nicholas, our 5 yr old, was no where in sight. It took us too long to finally locate him. After finally seeing Jed across the fields holding him, I rushed to him, grateful and crying. I felt peace throughout the search but still as a mother all emotions rush through you!
Then, we came home to our beloved Lab, Toby, gone. The kids were heart-broken. However, nothing could have prepared them for this morning. Our sweet horse, Harley was hit and killed this morning after she got loose from the pasture. But the worst is what happened to the driver. The poor lady didn't even see the horse and took the horse out at the knees which made Harley fly right threw the windshield and then over the top of the car. The woman, Janalee, is in bad shape. Harley was stubborn and it took several tries to put her out. The kids were devastated. Our hearts just hurt. Jed has been to the hospital and been in touch with Janalee's family. We are sick about it and just pray that her recovery will be swift and as comfortable as possible. After talking to our kids this morning, I invited them to fast with us and to pray in Janalee's behalf. I'm so grateful for my children and their tender hearts. Sarah, of course, was devastated about Harley. All the kids were but Sarah is the rider in our family. We were concerned that the children would be upset with their uncle and his family for not taking better care of the horse. And we prayed for the kids to be understanding and to not have bad feelings. Thus far, they have exceeded my expectations of how they would handle this. I'm so proud of them.
